Recycled Grounds turns spent coffee grounds into a rich soil amendment, keeping organic waste out of landfills and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Public House by WeRoast wanted to discover what phytonutrients were inside our coffee soil amendment. Since the soil amendment is comprised of many different cafes' spent coffee grounds, there was a potential for diverse vitamins and minerals. These nutrients come from the Goldilocks region, which includes the tropics where coffee grows. Whether we enjoy a cold brew or a latte, our bodies benefit from these rich coffee plants. When dried, spent coffee grounds can provide food for our plants. Public House by WeRoast puts UMass Amherst Extension Soil & Plant Nutrient Lab in the hot seat - does Recycled Grounds deliver soil-changing results?
The Soil Test Report had some interesting findings. We will share a few of those results from the 2026 UMASS Amherst Extension Soil & Plant Nutrient Testing Laboratory:
- 0.3 Lead (Pb) < 22 ppm
- Calcium (CA) 633 (opt range 1000-1500)
- Phosphorus is excessive
- No Nitrogen
